The Importance of Fluids in Diabetic Patients
We need to maintain a reasonably high threshold particularly when we're attending any patient that's diabetic. If there's an unwell diabetic we've just got to be super on it and thinking about what the potential underlying issues might be. Oxygen saturations will follow the usual British Thoracic Society guidelines so we're only going to give additional oxygen if their saturations are less than 94%. But where the real interest lies is fluid and I know Rob and Simon are going to talk about this from an in hospital perspective in a second but fluid is really where we can start to progress the treatment of these patients early on.
