The Importance of Utilitarianism
His father was a friend and acolyte of Jeremy Bentham, who's the famously mummified philosopher in University College, London. They believed that if you removed all the distractions from a boy and just taught them the classics they could create a sort of superchild. So he says that by the time he was about seventeen, he felt he'd had this very, very, very compressed education in just so many things.
