The US Policy in the Indo-Pacific: From Obama to Trump

The Bush administration's efforts to promote economic and security engagement with China remain key elements of US policy in the Indo-Pacific today. President Bush was able to get an agreement with Japan for the first permanent home-basing of a nuclear-powered barrier in Japan, which we still do. We also created a very different relationship with Singapore and created a new agreement on forces in Singapore that gave the US Navy much greater access to that strategic report.
