How to Identify Posterior Circulatory Infarcts
Only 10% of patients with a cerebellar infarct will have isolated vertigo without another associated deficit. So the hints examination has got a few parts to it. This is an acronym and what it can do is help you differentiate between it being a central cause such as a stroke and a peripheral cause such as this acute vestibular syndrome. But I think what we really need to take away from this is that hints isn't just there to look for a posterior circulatory stroke. There are going to be points at which in your practice it's going to be useful but I don't think it's something that is a blanket application to anybody in any way.
