African-Americans started to leave the postbellum south and they were then appeared in the north in greater numbers. The strongest resistance for bringing people from different socioeconomic strata into higher economic strata comes from the people from the disadvantaged groups. This forcible un-sorting of people doesn't actually even help the people that it's trying to help.
