The Third Commandment - The Lord's Name
The lord had placed his name upon israel. They were marked out by his presence and bound himself to them in covenant. Just as the child can bring dishonour to his family by his behaviour, so the people of the lord brought dishonour to the lord by the way that they disobeyed him. The nations are blaspheming the lord on account israel. And so he needs to vindicate his name by restoring his people and restoring his honour. Thereby, he will do this as he takes the people from the various nations where they have been scattered, gathering them and placing them into the land once more.
