The Indian Child Welfare Act - What's the Importance of the Case?

The Indian Child Welfare Act is a statute that I would describe as very crucial to Indian country and tribal sovereignty. It has done such incredible work to combat the horrible practice of taking Native American children away from their families. Some of the questions raised in this case actually have much broader implications for the rest of federal Indian law. If one of these pillars goes down, it could have implications for the entire rest of the house.
