There is a law which says it's called the fixed term parliament law. But any any governing party can do what it likes really. So for example, if Labour feel now is the time they can try and force a vote through the House to say we want a general election now. The Conservative Party has gotten a 90 seat majority in the parliament. A big, big majority. They're not going to vote for an election if they think they're going to lose it. It would be very difficult to Labour to push it.
My dad returns to talk more about UK politics, this time describing the disastrous economic policy of Liz Truss and her Chancellor (finance minister) Kwasi Kwarteng. Advanced level English listening practice - this is complicated stuff, but keep listening to develop your English skills and learn about what's going on in UK politics and current affairs.
