The Importance of Communication in an Open Relationship
I have a good handful of friends who have tried it and maybe like three couples and it hasn't worked out. It always kind of starts in the same way, at least when I've spoken to them about it. The communication is so strong at the beginning. And then there's just always comes a point where boundaries get blurred. There might even be lies on one side of the partnership and things just get very muddy. In all of three of those cases, it hasn't ended up working out because that open relationship was probably a manifestation of problems within their connection. Some people can separate physical intimacy from emotional intimacy; I personally can't.
