The Origins of Self-Representation

A lot of people in philosophy approach questions about self-consciousness from the other end. I was interested in reversing the order of inquiry and looking at the more basic forms of self-representation first. There are states in which people are no longer aware of their bodies at all, or they can be kind of blending with perception of the world. And this evidence has some implications for the whole question that I mentioned earlier on about whether one can be conscious without being self-conscious at all in any way at the same time.
