The History of the Tree of Casha
The word cinnamon refers solely to the cinnamon zalynissium plant of Ceylon, where it is found growing wild and was first brought under cultivation by Decoque in 1770. The earliest mention we have of cinnamon as a production of Ceylon is by Kazwini, an Arab writer of about 1275 AD. That Casha the bark was known in Biblical times as well authenticated. It is mentioned in a Chinese herbal published in 1700 BC under the name Quai. We do know that the Casha was obtained from China, but the source of the cinnamon is unknown,. unless it was obtained through the Chinese from Ceylon.
