The Effects of Carnitine on Long-Term Health
Carnitine is a shuttle protein that brings fatty acids across the mitochondria to the end part of the mitochondria where they can use it for beta oxidation. The bacteria in their gut will take carnitine and choline and they'll transmit it into TMAO or TMA, which then gets convertedinto TMAO. It has been shown to be pro-athrogenic or pro-athroclerotic. And I think we still need some more long-term studies about how the reduction of TMAO in the diet can affect long-term health outcomes.
