The Three Components of OCD

Dean Obeidallah: We have the physiological malfunction and then we have the neocortex meaning the thinking brain pairing the physiological dysfunction with a cognition. The cognition is typically extraordinarily irrational, meaningless, and yet it feels so real. People without OCD have exactly that second component, the cognition, without the emotional component. And so the third component is the brainkeeper voice. He says patients push back and they say, but it's all me. I am my brain. But just as you are not your digestive acids in your stomach, you are not the person keeping our body regulated at 98.6 Fahrenheit.
