The UK spends 0.46% of its GDP on R&D, compared to the OECD average of 0.6%. This puts it 27th in a list of 38 nations for research intensive countries. The government has committed itself to being 'a superpower', says Lord Tebbit. But more funding is needed over a period of time, he adds.
