Traveller Encampments in Ireland

This is during the romantic period, as i talked about with regard to the roma. And there are irish genre paintings of this kind from the early 18 hundreds that show traveller encampments with caravans and tents. The common custom was round, bowed tents, so tents built around arching bent wood ribs. These tents could then be quickly and easily adapted into bow top wagons. Simply put them on a base with wheels, hitch a horse, and you have a little travelling home. This seems to have become common by no later than the 18 thirties, but we don't know how far back they go before that.
