The Effects of Brain Scanning on Phi Levels

Scientists used a simplified model of the brain using data from brain scanning techniques. They treated small anatomical brain areas as if each one was a node within an information processing network to calculate an approximation for the value of phi in that area. And they did find that for two key brain networks the level of phi was just as you'd expect high when people were awake, slightly lower when they entered mild sedation and then lower still as the anaesthetic took hold.
