Goth is from a Germanic word which basically means people. It does seem to be their own name for themselves but we see groups that are fragmented off Goths, off the main body,. Sometimes called Goths, sometimes not and we see other groups not called Goths being recruited into larger Gothic dominated entities. The story told in the sixth century is that Goths came over from Scandinavia in three ships.
