The Growth of Cities in the Medieval Period
In the medieval period, anything approaching homelessness on a large scale was usually uncommon. The growth of cities led to larger and larger numbers of people who have no real means of support. A lot of vagrants were former soldiers because in this period, you go to war for the king or your duke or whatever and you lose an arm. Good luck. Sucks to you.
