Capacitors are used in electronics, but many of our listeners may not be familiar with them. So what are they and how do they work? A capacityr is a device that stores electricity. Batteries store the energy in a chemical way, but capacitors store it an electric field. As the capacityer charges, the surfaces build up positive and negative electrical charges until the charge is strong enough to jump across the gap. The outer skin was being positively charged from contact with the air, and the inner frame was being negatively charged from the ground.
