If russia were to stop using that pipe line, not only would ukraine be deprived of all the transit fees for moving the gas across its territory. The eastern part of the country would find it really hard to get gas to heat their homes. A lot of people have very fresh memories of fighting and masses of sease fire violations take place all the time. villagers still often sleeping in their basements for fear of bombardment.
