I wanted to villainize Charles throughout it because it felt like he was the one that could have stepped in and changed all of this. He even talks about when he was shipped away to boarding school how he never really talked about it but he told has at one point that he can't believe he survived it. Like I think that he has PTSD for like he has so much trauma from just being a gangly looking heir at a way at boarding school and definitely was not equipped to handle any of this.
