The Relationship Between Settlements and Wrongful Penalties
The top three settlements from the last 13 years were all to do with wrongful imprisonment. All three of them were cases where it was a young Black man who had been wrongfully convicted because of something that the police had done. There's a massive discrepancy. Part of it is to do with the, as you would expect, the kind of strength of the case. And so he said that a large part about getting a big settlement was trying to humanize his clients.
