Film and Sound in the Digital World
A movie is a series of still images that gets projected one after the other. Its physical form is a continuous strip of celluloid. But there's no frames on the film when you buy it put into the camera. Everything changed with the coming of sound. Several things had to be standardized when synchronized sound came along in the late 19 twenties. And since they could only play about seven or eight minutes of audio per disk, this meant the projectionist was kept very busy.
