Two years after Dennis Pop's death, the magic seemed to have stopped working. He was getting outflanked by other writers in the Swedish capital and beyond. The Chiron sound had become too bland. Max Martin found that it had become what all musicians fear: old-fashioned. Boring. In most situations where something like that happens, that's the end of that songwriter's career.
