The History of Financing in the United States
Before the Great Depression, you had kind of what was essentially commercial terms. Typically, when you bought a house, you put down 50% and the total cost your house was anywhere from two to two and a half times your annual earnings. There was no Fannie Mae, no Freddie Mag, no FHA. Now, none of this can exist right without being financed because if you are, you know, turning on the credit spigot, it's got to go somewhere.
