What Is an Endowment Fund?

The National Gallery currently only 8% of the works of art in the gallery's collection were made by women artists. "It's long been identified that the National Gallery needed to expand the collection of work by women artists," he says. The museum will use its Endowment Fund, which is funded through gifts from private collectors and endowments, to buy new artwork for $1 million or more a year.
