The Transfiguration Is a Sign of the Coming of Christ
Peter is shortly about to die, and this gives its book some of its testamentary character. He notes that jesus has told him about the manner in which he would die. Peter wants to make preparation for them in the future. The transfiguration was a guarantee of the coming realization of all the prophetic promises. It's the prophetic word made more sure. What we look forward to is not so much a series of escatological events, but the revelation of jesus christ.
