Caleb Watney: Our topic for today is artificial intelligence, AI algorithms in particular. He says Kathy O'Neill wrote a book called Weapons of Math Destruction. She's very concerned that there's this view out there that because we're using algorithms in certain decision making, that suddenly it becomes unbiased, he says. Watney: It's totally possible for algorithms to be biased. Human programmers can choose the wrong data sets,. The data sets can be incomplete. They can be either incompetent or malevolent in their machine learning applications.
