The Importance of Quality Ajusted Life Years

The UK government uses qualities, quality adjusted life years, in order to decide on the priority of different treatments. This means that interventions at the beginning of life and with young people always by vastly more life years than interventions at the end of life. And so when I was working as a neonatologist caring for young babies, we used to bang this drum endlessly because the number of qualities you get by investing in neonatal facilities is very high.
