There's a culture of sexual permissiveness during World War II that I think, you know, starts to be an element of concern. Most Americans are repelled by the mere notion of homosexuality. Two out of three Americans look upon homosexuals with disgust, discomfort or fear. A paranoia was growing that gays and lesbians were taking over cities - just like communists.
