First Thanksgiving in a Poem
The holiday of thanksgiving is explicit right there in the title, first thanks Thanksgiving. The change here is that the child has gone off to college. And for many people, this is familiar. This is the cycle. Generations, pas handing off the holiday to one another like batons to relay runners. But who cares? Because although i am old, says the poet, i get to live in these moments and these memories. I am all ages at once.
