The head of Russia's foreign intelligence service is also the head of the Russian Historical Society. So Putin looks back on history as a means of propaganda, writes Andrew Hammond. He says Stalin was convinced that he was the supreme chief intelligence analyst. "Telling truth to power in Stalin's court could well end your life," said Hammond.
