The Importance of Language in Lacanian Psychoanalysis

Lacan French tradition is very focused on the language itself not what it represents but as what it does as a machine as a function yeah so like you know Freud's mechanisms of the unconscious. The way that the unconscious works for Freud is through condensation and displacement right where a symbol can acquire a kind of catholic or you know emotional investment, then displacement is the second mechanism which takes that condensed energy and switches it for a different symbol. In linguistic terms that's metaphor and methanomy metaphor is condensation methanomy is displacement and it and then that links into the Sarion sign of the signifier and the signified.
