Puget Sound is only 600 thousand years old, which in geographical time isn't a lot. But the real critical story, geologic story, is the last ice age that starts in this area. The way the sound is formed is not actually due to ice flowing across the land. Its water flowing under the ice that excavates down into the sediments below and carves out puget sound. It's 900 feet deep at its deepest spot, with an average of about 200 feet.
