The Black Mermaid
When the first teaser appeared in 2022, TikTok filled up with parents filming young black children. This new Ariel, swimming up through the wreckage of the ship, into the light, was black too. She nearly received widespread public support, including from Jody Benson and Hallie Berry. Bailey is one of four children; as well as Chloe and Skye, she has a younger brother, Branson.
