The Importance of Seeing the Sheep

I was to see the sheep, not necessarily close a hand, in order to get them in a single mob. This was no difficult matter, for there were not above 800 of them and being all breeding for the Jews, they were pretty quiet. I had a telescope and a door, and would take Brad and me in tobacco with me. It is surprising how soon the eye becomes accustomed to missing 20 sheep out of two or three hundred. There was a monotonous life, but was very healthy, and one does not much mind anything when one is well. The country was the grandest that can be imagined.
