Is the Church of Scotland a National Church?
The church of Scotland should no longer seek to claim to be the church of the Scottish nation. The idea of a national church in that sense is theologically problematic so old Presbyterianism is problematic for that reason. From about 1921 the constitutional standing of the church of Scotland was pretty close to being that of a voluntary association. It suffers from no state control in its internal affairs really at all.
