Dunning's Self-Assessment Distortion

Dunning argues that we misjudge ourselves, not because we are lazy or lying. We seem far more accurate at judging our athletic ability than intellectual skills. Social desirability bias plays a much bigger role in creating justifications for our social selves. Regardless of the cause, the difficulty we have forming accurate self beliefs seems like a major problem on the road to self improvement.
