The Problem With Representation in Chemistry
In nanotechnology, whenever you've got anything that's too small to see and too small to clearly resolve in a microscope, then you've got to think about how you show it. And part of what chemists do in that showing is about the process. They show you, at this point, I got this spectrum, and then I was thinking about what that might mean in terms of structures. That's something we're used in art anyway, right? So I think that part of the artistry is to find a representation, an iconic thing that does this job of becoming this artwork.
