The Origins of the Hebrew Matthew

There are some early church traditions that mention a Hebrew Matthew, but there are no ancient manuscripts. We know over the centuries that the Gospel of Matthew was translated into Hebrew from the Greek. George Howard noticed in one particular manuscript it had certain plays on words and so why would rabbis might translate it from the Greek or with the help of someone get translated into Hebrew? This way they had it in their own language. So I remain skeptical as to whether we have actually discovered fragments of the original Hebrew Matthew in these later writings.
