The Vision of the Tin or Plaster
The visions of amos continue in chapter eight with the fourth vision in verses one to three. The third vision of the tin or the plaster likely involved a play upon words. Many bible translations stand the image as that of lead or a plum line, but beno lansberger and others have argued forcifully against this. In robert alter's translation of the hebrew ble, he renders the verse as follows: What do you see, amos? And i said, a basket of summer's end fruit. Then the lord said, like this fruit, israel is ripe for punishment. I will not delay their punishment again.
