Is There a Difference Between Normal Logic and Mechanistic Reasoning?

Darwin was a nomological and empiricist so all that remains is somebody who's mechanistic and rationalist now there aren't that many people like this but James Myers gives the example of Descartes. He wasn't basing on experiments he was just observing the well I suppose maybe there was a bit of observation but he was broadly saying well I think this is how it works  without doing any experiments or anything similar. In school for example in science everyone is a rationalist what I mean is that we teach kids in a rationalist way we say this is a theory and then we don't spend very much time on experiment to explain why something happened.
