The Problem of God's Absence in Greek Esther
The story of Esther has its origins in the diaspora, although we can't say for sure. But we do know with almost mere certainty that the Greek version, ironically, was produced in the land of Israel. And so you have mortified sort of refrained as a Hellenist hero, the sort of macho pious, attractive, you know, the perfect Greek hero, and likewise Esther is the perfect heroine.
