When people talk of wanting to be a writer, they'll ask is it too late? But there's always a caveat. Some writers begin early and burn bright - but also burn out. Tony Morrison wrote her first novel at the age of 39. She would win the Pulitzer for Beloved at 57. And she would win the Nobel Prize at 62. Ian Fleming was 44 years old when he wrote his first James Bond novel. Bram Stoker started writing Dracula aged 50. Alice Munro is my personal favourite contemporary writer.
