The FDA Cannot Require Supplements to Be Tested for Safety
In 1994, leaders of a nutritional health alliance decided to rewrite the entire legislative landscape for dietary supplements. A version of the law that they put forward was eventually called Deshais - D-S-H-E-A Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. It defined supplements super broadly to include probiotics, protein powders, herbal remedies,. And while there have been updates, it set up the basic framework that we have for supplement regulations today.
