The International Day for Victims of Torture
Torture is absolutely prohibited, there are just no excuses for torture under any circumstances. This requires really training, awareness and also non-prosecution if a junior soldier refuses to obey the directions of a more senior officials. I'm very disconcerted that according to latest statistics, we have more armed conflicts going on in the world since 1945. Globally one thing I am very positive about, there are now 173 states parties to the UN Convention against Torture. The 26th of June date actually was selected because it was the day that the Convention against torture entered into force in 1987. It's going to be 40 years next year for when it was adopted.
