The Argument for a CBDC

Central bankers are explaining CBDC to the public as a digital upgrade to money. Ergo, the rationale goes, a CBDC is just the next step in the evolution of the dollar. But think about the ways that CBDC is really fundamentally something different from cash with respect to the kind of privacy it offers.
