Leo Strauss was a German Jewish immigrant who fled the horrors of the Holocaust first to Europe. He is famous for many reasons, but I think it's really he helped revive political philosophy almost single-handedly. So really his students, especially those during the Chicago years, are still operating as wonderful professors throughout the country.
