In places like india, small pox vaccination had been a routine part of the public health service since 19 forty seven. Animal rights activists and anti vivisectionists objected to their use. When methods progressed to using tissue, cultures, mistrust of science led people to object to this method as well. So that is how smallpox was finally eradicated.
