Analog television limited the number of channels that could be broadcast in any area. In 1981, Ronald Reagan repealed the FCC's public interest requirement to abolish the fairness doctrine. As the cable years developed, more and more varied channels started popping up. Neesh channels like Nickelodeon for kids and ESPN for sports launched in 1979. Ted Turner started CNN, the first channel to broadcast news 24-7.
